DMLS Co-Cr

Direct Metal Laser Sintering (DMLS) Cobalt-Chromium (Co-Cr) PFM restorations use laser-fused metal frameworks layered with porcelain to deliver precise, strong and natural-looking implant-supported crowns and bridges. Available in the following configurations:

A. DMLS Cement Retained PFM (Direct Implant)

In this restoration, the finished DMLS Co-Cr PFM crown or bridge is cemented onto the abutment (a component attached to the dental implant). The “direct” approach refers to the implant being placed directly into the jawbone.

B. DMLS Cement Retained PFM (Indirect Implant)

DMLS cement retained PFM indirect implant

A cement-retained PFM crown on an indirect implant combines a durable, precision-crafted metal framework with the aesthetics of porcelain and the stability of cement retention. DMLS produces highly accurate, strong Co-Cr frameworks that serve as the base for the PFM crown. The indirect approach uses a custom abutment connecting the implant to the crown, allowing better positioning and angulation.

C. DMLS Screw Retained PFM

DMLS screw retained PFM

DMLS Co-Cr PFM screw-retained crowns combine the precision of DMLS, the strength of a Co-Cr alloy, the aesthetics of PFM, and the security of screw retention — a strong, durable, well-fitting option, particularly for implant cases.

  • DMLS ensures a highly accurate fit with minimal marginal discrepancies, enhancing comfort and long-term success.
  • Co-Cr alloy provides excellent strength and resistance to wear and fracture, withstanding chewing and biting forces.
  • The PFM component allows natural-looking restoration that blends with surrounding teeth.
  • Secure yet retrievable, allowing adjustments or replacement if needed.
  • Co-Cr alloys are generally well-tolerated, minimizing allergic reactions or tissue irritation.

In essence, DMLS Co-Cr PFM screw-retained crowns combine modern technology and materials for a reliable, aesthetically pleasing restoration — particularly in implant cases.

D. DMLS Basal Implant PFM

DMLS basal implant PFM

A DMLS Co-Cr basal implant PFM bridge combines the strength and precision of DMLS with the aesthetics of a PFM bridge. DMLS fuses powdered metal with a laser into a custom-fit framework, then layers it with porcelain for a natural-looking appearance.

These implants anchor into the dense basal bone of the jaw, potentially avoiding the need for bone grafting in some cases. They’re often used where traditional implants would be challenging due to bone loss.

E. DMLS Screw Retained Ti-Base PFM

DMLS screw retained Ti-base PFM

A DMLS screw-retained PFM restoration uses a metal framework (typically Co-Cr) layered with porcelain, designed to be screw-retained to a titanium base (Ti-base) on the implant — a strong, esthetically pleasing option.

  • A prefabricated or custom-designed titanium base screws onto the implant, providing a stable platform for the PFM restoration.
  • DMLS delivers high precision and strength, especially in thin cross-sections — crucial for implant-supported restorations.
  • Can fabricate frameworks for crowns, bridges, and even full-arch restorations.
  • Co-Cr alloys are commonly used for the DMLS framework due to their strength and biocompatibility.

F. DMLS Implant Metal

DMLS Co-Cr implant metal

DMLS is a 3D printing technology used to create dental components made of cobalt-chromium (Co-Cr) alloy — a biocompatible material offering high strength, durability, and wear resistance, suitable for long-lasting crowns, bridges, and implant frameworks.

  • Uses a laser to fuse powdered metal (like Co-Cr) layer by layer, based on a digital design, to create a 3D object.
  • Co-Cr alloys are known for excellent strength, biocompatibility, and corrosion resistance.
  • Used for crowns, bridges, and implant frameworks — as well as medical implants like hip and knee replacements.
  • Offers high precision, accurate fit, and complex geometries difficult or impossible with traditional casting.
  • Higher initial cost than traditional methods, but greater long-term value through durability and fewer replacements.
